INTERIOR DESIGN in & out TRENDS FOR 2027

Media walls are fading out as we head into 2027. Built-in cabinets featuring a large TV, an insert fireplace, overused fluted wood panels, and surrounding lights, all crammed into a single feature wall, are widely considered overdone and dated. They lock a room's personality into a single layout and dynamic, making the rest of the space inflexible to design around.

WHAT'S IN....Timeless, understated, floor-to-ceiling display cases feature books and collected objects rather than black screen technology. This blends TV screens seamlessly into the background, allowing them to sit naturally within a collected, eclectic room rather than making the TV the aggressive altar of the living space.

Layered textures, handmade details, and mixed-frame gallery walls with a relaxed, emotional mood.
Deep, warm neutrals (like chocolate brown, mushroom, warm stone, and deep olive) or moody, dark wallpaper backdrops (forest green, navy, or charcoal).

Blending screens seamlessly into the background or letting art (like frame TVs) sit naturally within a collected, eclectic room rather than making the TV the aggressive altar of the living space.

Kitchen design in 2027 will move away from cold, all-white or grey aesthetics.

WHAT'S IN.... Warm, tactile, and multifunctional spaces blend cooking zones seamlessly with living areas. Richer natural woods, such as walnut and deeper timber tones with natural grain variation and warmth, take centre stage. Warm neutrals (taupe, sand, soft beige), muddy pastels (like muted rose), earthy greens, rich browns, and dark wood grains paired with aged brass or brushed metal accents are the way to go.

Massive, boxy, sterile workstations are being replaced.

WHAT'S IN....Curved islands and eased edges create a kitchen island that feels like a bespoke piece of furniture - a sculptural centre piece defined by tactile materials, organic shapes, and intentional zoning.

In contrast, a kitchen peninsula connects directly to a wall or cabinet; it provides counter and preparation space like an island but saves valuable floor room. While large kitchen islands remain popular in spacious layouts, smaller or open-concept homes are moving away from them because blocky centre pieces can disrupt room flow.

Never fashionably out, more intentionally in.

WHAT'S IN....The "hidden kitchen" trend uses door front cabinetry, sculleries, and appliance garages to tuck away everyday cooking clutter from open-plan living spaces. Dedicated pantries, integrated internal drawers, and beverage drawers keep things streamlined.

While "appliance garage" might be a new term to you, it refers to a dedicated section of kitchen cabinetry - either sitting directly on the worktop or built as a tall pantry unit. It is used to hide everyday gadgets like toasters, kettles, coffee machines, and air fryers behind closed doors. How we can create this design:

Roll-up tambour doors: Flexible slats that slide vertically or horizontally to save swing space.

Bi-fold or pocket doors: Doors that fold back or slide into side cavities so you have a wide, unobstructed view of the station.

Drop-front or lift-up panels: Single panels that lift upward or drop down for quick access to frequent items like a morning coffee bar.
